INTRODUCTION

AN ARCHITECT WHO FOUND THE MAGIC OF MEMBRANES

ABOUT

My approach to building the future of this world:

As we pave a path towards a future which heals the damage we have done to our planet, we need to preserve all we can. Fluid, malleable, adaptable and manageable; I see fabric structures as the future of the construction industry. I believe that fabrics can make ground breaking differences in the way towards a more sustainable life on this planet.

 This is reflected in the topic I have chosen for my master’s thesis;
Logic for an intelligent fabric façade design to reduce heat gain/loss in existing buildings.

Tensile shades and architectural design of the International cricket stadium, Peshawar, KPK

I worked on the project’s detailing, drawings, and architectural details with Engg. Zakir Ullah Khan. It was a challenging project, mainly because of the scale, as there haven’t been too many large-scale Lightweight Membrane Structural projects done in Pakistan.

Some other projects I have worked on with Engg. Zakir Ullah Khan are as below:

SKILLS

What I can do.

An eclectic list of design, analysis and practical skills I have acquired over the years

  • Problem Solving and Planning

My best design strengths have been planning and problem-solving since I was a student. I can step into the client’s mind and plan exactly what they have imagined, improving on it with small details. I also can take a step back and identify problems and their solution. This skill was refined when I worked as a Senior Architect with a team of over 12 people reporting to me.

  • Form Finding

As forementioned, being new to the field, I am learning form finding, even though I have done a few simple projects

  • Designing energy efficient buildings

Energy efficient designs are the only key to long term survival on earth for us. I have been making sure to place as many energy conscious elements in my designs, even as small as residential projects, with in my designs; remembering to keep the costs at bay.

  • BIM

BIM is the way to clean, efficient teamwork. Even though I haven’t had much practical experience with it, I have firmly advocated its application in my country for efficient and clean project management. I have conducted many university seminars to highlight the importance of BIM and how it can be implemented in our country’s context.

  • Client dealing

Running my own company for most of the time since I graduated, has educated me on the finer points of client dealing

  • Site And Project Management

Running a small firm and working as an independent contractor has given me a chance to be on site a lot, and getting my hands dirty to make sure that my designs are implemented as is. This has given me a strong sense of site and project management, especially since I have been responsible for a lot of timelines and schedules on site.
